Homemade Applesauce in the Crock Pot

Sunday started with my roommate and I running to the start of the Great Race 10k in Pittsburgh. I finished my run at the local farmer's market. You know you went a little overboard in purchases when your arms feel like they are about to fall off when you get home.

The apples I bought from the farmer's market (Gala and Honeycrisp) were well worth it though in deliciousness.



Homemade Applesauce




Ingredients
  • 8-10 apples (I used Gala and Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup raw cane sugar (I was out of brown sugar)
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp all spice
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice 
  • 1/2 cup water 
Directions

Core and slice apples (I kept the skin on). Toss all ingredients in the crock pot and cook on low for six hours. 


Next, I used a hand blender to blend and served warm. You could also use a blender or fork to mash to desired consistency.
